Camping Chocolate Fondue with Salted Caramel

topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 2 bars of semi-sweet chocolate, 100g each
  • 1 jar (430 g) prepared dulce de leche (about 1 1/3 cups)
  • Marshmallows, for dipping
  • Graham crackers, for dipping
  • Fresh fruits and berries, such as pineapple chunks and red and/or white grapes, for dipping
  • Cookies, shortbread cookies, or vanilla wafers, for dipping

Preparation:

  1. Build a small fire and place a grate over it. Break the chocolate bars into small pieces using the handle of a wooden spoon (or you can smash the bar against a bench).
  2. Unwrap the chocolate and pour the pieces into a medium saucepan along with the dulce de leche, 1/2 cup and 1 teaspoon coarse salt.
  3. Place the pan on a grill over the heat and heat, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate has melted and the sauce is completely smooth, about 5 minutes. If the sauce is too thick, add water 1 tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  4. Serve with suggested garnishes, such as marshmallows, graham crackers, berries, pineapple chunks, grapes, shortbread cookies, or vanilla wafers. Leftover fondue can be mixed with hot water to make hot chocolate.
