Asian-style steak with fries topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1 package (600 g) of frozen French fries
- 1/4 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice Powder
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons pickled cucumber relish
- 2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce (Asian chili sauce)
- 600 gr. flank steak
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil + extra for greasing
- 1 cucumber, peeled and cut into 2 cm pieces.
- 1 tbsp. l. rice vinegar
- 3 green onions, thinly sliced
Preparation:
- Toss fries on a baking sheet with 1/8 teaspoon five-spice seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon salt; bake according to package directions.
- Meanwhile, heat a grill pan over high heat. Combine the ketchup, relish, Sriracha sauce, and the remaining 1/8 teaspoon of five-spice seasoning in a bowl; set aside 2 tablespoons of the mixture for brushing the steak.
- Pierce the steak with a fork and season with salt. Brush a grill pan with vegetable oil, then add the steak and cook until grill marks appear, 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally and brushing with sauce.
- Transfer the steak to a cutting board, let it rest for 10 minutes, then slice thinly across the grain.
- Combine the cucumbers in a bowl with vegetable oil and vinegar, season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss the fries with the green onions and season with salt to taste.
- Serve with steak and spicy ketchup.
