Chili dogs with cheese topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1.5 tsp vegetable oil
- Half a large white onion, chopped
- 220 g of ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1.5 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
- 0.5 tsp ground cumin
- 1 cup canned chopped tomatoes
- 1.5 tsp tomato paste
- 8 sausages
- 8 hot dog buns, cut into pieces
- 110 g of grated cheddar
- Ketchup and mustard, for serving
Preparation:
- Chile:
Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent, about 8 minutes. Add the ground beef and garlic and cook, stirring and breaking up the ground beef with a wooden spoon, until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Add the chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a few freshly ground black pepper and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
- Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1/2 cup water to the pan. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and keep the sauce warm.
- Chili dogs:
Preheat a grill or large grill pan to medium-high heat. Grill the hot dogs according to package directions until grill marks appear and the dogs are heated through, about 5 minutes. Toast the buns, if needed, for about 1 minute. Assemble the hot dogs and top each with 1/4 cup chili. Sprinkle each chili dog with cheese and serve with ketchup and mustard.
