Burger with Asian sauce

topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp finely grated peeled ginger root
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup hot ketchup
  • 1/4 tbsp. dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. dark sesame oil
  • 700 g of ground beef neck
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 4 hamburger buns, lightly toasted
  • For serving: lettuce, tomato, pickled vegetables and/or French fries

Preparation:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the ginger and garlic and cook until softened, about 2 minutes. Add the hoisin sauce, ketchup, sherry, soy sauce, and sesame oil and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  2. Mix the ground beef with the cilantro, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Form into four patties, 2 cm thick and about 11 cm in diameter.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the patties, turning once, for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, brushing them with a little sauce a few minutes before they're done.
  4. Serve the patties on buns with the remaining sauce, lettuce and tomatoes, if using, and pickles and French fries on the side.
